How live odds work
Each starter's projection is scaled to the time left in his game, and the matchup's spread narrows as the clock runs down. A 20-point lead with one player left to go is safer than it looks; the same lead with four players to go isn't.
- Stakes. How much each game moves both teams' playoff odds, win or lose.
- Rooting guide. The other games in the league whose results move your odds most, and which side to cheer for.
- Lineup check. Before kickoff: starters who are out, on bye or have a better option on the bench.
- The median. In leagues with a weekly median game, each team's live chance to beat it.
